You might have noticed that I talk about courage a lot. Why? Because courage is so important to successful leadership.
The successful leader is courageous enough to make mistakes. Courageous enough to be vulnerable. Courageous enough to admit to not knowing everything.
Courageous leadership is self-aware, aware of fears and uncertainties and strengths and weaknesses.
Courageous leaders take action during a pandemic when the very survival of the organization depends on decisions that may be unpopular.
Courageous leaders listen to their team on the ground and respect their insights.
Courageous leaders know they don’t have all the answers and are willing to ask questions.
The more you use your courage, the better a leader you’ll become. You’ll get better and better at it, because that’s how courage works. Through courage, you build up a pile of experiences that reinforce your courageous choices. Those experiences bolster your capacity for more courage.
Be brave. Be courageous. Be willing to make the tough calls and to ask the questions. Be vulnerable.
And if you need help learning how to do that, I’ll bet you know where to find me. Let’s talk.
