This post, of course, assumes you have desires. I’ll be frank: I’ve encountered a lot of folks along the way who have told me they don’t have big dreams and desires.

Typically the story goes one of two ways: either they were taught not to have big dreams as a child or they convinced themselves they didn’t need anything in life because they got discouraged.

Here’s the thing: Pretty much every client who has told me one of these two stories has realized there are things they want in life. They *do* have desires. They might not be material desires, and that’s great! Some of my clients have realized they wanted to make the world a little bit better, and uncovered desires around that.

Listen…I don’t care if you want an Hermès Birken bag or want to start a charity. What I care about is telling yourself you don’t want much in life because you don’t think you can have much in life – materially or otherwise – because it just isn’t true.

If you’ve convinced yourself that you don’t need much or don’t want much because if you’re philosophically aligned to a simple life, that’s awesome. But if you’ve decided you don’t deserve much or will never achieve much, that’s a different conversation.

Which are you? Do you feel discouraged? What makes you feel discouraged? What’s gotten in the way of the things you dreamt of as a child? What’s getting in your way now?
