Every day I talk to people who want to move their careers forward. Some of them are clients and some want to be.

After 20 years in this work, I can often see very clearly who will be successful in their career progression, and I can see who will be most benefitted by working with me.

Sometimes it’s a woman who gets in her own way and sabotages her success.
Sometimes it’s someone who doesn’t know how to play the secret game (I call it “The In-Between the Lines Game”) that gets people promoted.
Sometimes it’s a guy who thinks all he has to do to get promoted is work hard and do his job really well.
Sometimes it’s an individual who lacks confidence and doesn’t know how to fake it.

Sometimes, I find someone so deeply rooted in the stories they tell themselves that they can’t see that there are other versions of those stories that are more empowering and more true.

There are things that each of these folks can do to benefit their career – immediately. But they often don’t know what those things are or they’re unwilling to do them.

What do you think could benefit your career? What’s holding you back from doing that thing? Have you sought out guidance and help?
